Chocolate Tiramisu Torte

Yesterday (29/4/2011) was my daughter's birthday. She requested a chocolate layer cake with cream. OK.... I decided to make this chocolate tiramisu torte for her. Wow... this cake is a huge success ! This was my first attempt to make this torte & everyone loved it so..... I definitely will make it again ! 




Chocolate Tiramisu Torte

Ingredients :
175g unsalted butter, room temperature 
175g caster sugar 
3  eggs 

150g all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
30g cocoa powder
1 tsp of vanilla essence
5 tbp of milk

3 tbp-5 tbp  icing sugar


Frosting :
50ml instant white coffee
3 tsp kahlua
250g cream cheese
250ml whipping cream
50g dark chocolate, grated


Method :
  1. Preheat oven to 180 °C
  2. Grease and line 2 18cm round baking tin with paper.
  3. Cream butter & sugar at medium speed until white & fluffy.
  4. Decrease to slow speed, add in eggs one at a time till well mix. Add the vanilla essence & beat.
  5. Then add sifted flour, baking powder & cocoa powder & beat well.
  6. Divide between the tins and bake for 25-30 minutes .
  7. Cool completely then cut each cake in half horizontally.


To make the frosting :

1. Beat the cream cheese until it softens then stir in the cream & icing sugar, bit by bit.

2. Add the 1tsp kahlua then lightly beat until softly whipped.

3. Mix the coffee with 2 tsp kahlua and sprinkle over the cut sides of each cake. Sandwich the 4 layers together with the cheese cream.

4. Finish the top and side with a layer of cream and finely grated dark chocolate. Chill for an hour before serving to make the cake easier to cut.
